Asset location and count relied on periodic manual audits followed by spreadsheet reconciliation, which meant that at any given moment between audits, nobody could say with real confidence where a given piece of equipment actually was — a problem that compounded across sites and shifts, and made loss, misplacement, and unauthorized removal difficult to detect quickly.

We tagged the client's assets with RFID tags selected for their specific environment (read range, durability, and frequency band chosen per asset class), installed fixed readers at key chokepoints — entry/exit points, staging areas, zone boundaries — and issued handheld readers for targeted spot checks. Every read, fixed or handheld, feeds a central database that powers a live location dashboard, with exception-based alerts configured for scenarios like an asset leaving its designated zone or going unread for longer than expected.

Asset location moved from a manually-updated "best guess," refreshed roughly monthly, to a live, continuously updated view with automatic alerts the moment a tagged asset exits its expected zone. The client also gained an audit-ready movement history per asset, replacing what had previously been reconstructed after the fact from partial records.
